Teddy

Teddy chews on a toy
| Teddy was a rescue 'dale. He had been in a research
facility and was bailed out by a college student. The student could not keep him so, after
a few phone calls, he came to us. When we first met him he was frightened of everyone and
especially terrified of men. One suspects that he had seen ill treatment at the hand of
some oaf. Teddy stayed with us a few weeks and then was placed in the home of a retired
gentleman in Wisconsin. One day not long after his arrival, while his new owner had gone
next door to visit a neighbor, Teddy jumped the fence. Teddy had already become attached
to this gentleman and when Teddy lost sight of him he probably went looking for his new
master. We sadly assumed all was lost when, about three weeks later, we got a call saying that Teddy had been found. Ted had been struck by a car but he would survive his injuries thanks to the care of a wonderful veterinarian in Wisconsin. His new owner decided he could not keep Teddy so, once healed, he was driven back here to the farm where he lived out his days. Teddy endured some of the worst of mans behavior. Instead of responding in kind he somehow managed to leave it all behind. For a few short years here on the farm he was able to live with dignity, to romp with the other dogs, to investigate all those things which stirred his curiosity, to bark fiercely in defense of his home and, at the end of the day, to curl up on a rug in the living room and sleep soundly. He was a noble dog. We will always treasure his memory. |
