In the early summer of 1999, Penny, a rescue Airedale, came to the farm. Penny was just passing through on her way to a permanent home. One evening Penny attacked Toto, apparently because she thought Toto had gotten too close to a toy. Toto was seriously injured and she was rushed to the vet's clinic.

Toto suffered a large cut on her side, a slight puncture of her lung, and a small hernia. Her condition was such that she needed a transfusion. Stevie the brave and very kindly Airedale came forward to provide the blood for Toto's transfusion. She stayed at the vet's clinic a couple of days and then came home. Even after returning home Toto needed much attention and she made several return trips to the veterinary clinic.
